The workshop includes hands-on sessions that cover composition, lighting, and post-processing techniques, tailored for all skill levels. Daily itinerary

Day 1 - january 15

Arrival in morning or afternoon
Welcome dinner at hotel
Stay at Villa San Ignacio Hotel

Day 2 - January 16

  • 6am - Leave for Manuel Antonio

  • Check into house

  • Shoot around house for evening. We will be able to see monkeys, many species of birds and hopefully a sloth right from the house. We I'll take the afternoon and evening to spend some time with each of you and assess where we can best help you. The evening class will revolve around common themes of what we are seeing. 

  • Dinner at the house prepared by our amazing local chef.  I'm so happy Gracelia is joining us to share some Costa Rican culture and cuisine.

Day 3 - january 17

  • AM - Esquipulas Morning  - Short hike Bird photography. We will have the most amazing coffee and costa rican breakfast while we spend time with many different species of birds that come to sustainable feeders. The feeders give us a wonderful opportunity to teach as the the birds stage and return to the feeder again and again. We hope to see many species of birds Costa Rica has around 900 species. The start of the show is always the toucans up close.

  • Lunch at hotel and computer session
    Optional afternoon class on Work flow,  File Storage.

  • Flex Time ( because this tour is designed to be supporting the participant in where they most need support the outings will be designed to set them up to practice with support what they need the most). 

  • Dinner at the House

  • After dinner we will work computer  work flows  and getting everyone set up for success.

Day 4 - january 18

Practice makes perfect. 

  • AM - Manuel Antonio

  • Noon - Lunch at the house

  • Afternoon Optional  lesson on Editing

  • Afternoon snack Dinner will be late. 

  •  Evening Class/Night Walk/ Macro. If you dont have a macro lens thats ok we can work with what you have.  We are off to the rainforest at night to see what it has to show us. Hope red eyed green tree frog or two.

Day 5 - january 19

  • AM - We will take a vote on the last morning. 

  • Travel back to San Jose, Estimated Arrival 5:00PM. You may plan a later evening flight out of San Jose or book a night at a hotel (Villa Ignacio recommended but not included).

Tour Leader: Jacquie Matechuk

Based out of her hometown, Cochrane, Alberta Jacquie Matechuk is a Canon Ambassador, has been recognized as Nature Photographer of the Year, 2024 gold medallist at the World Photographic Cup, is an internationally published artist, presenter, certified bear guide and photographic coach. Her journey is as unique, and passion-filled as her perspective on life and her ability to capture those jaw-dropping, heart-warming moments, that truly give her subject a voice.

Today, Jacquie has further embraced the challenge to see & share the beauty in this world by teaming up with organizations such as Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective, the Jane Goodall Institute, Polar Bears International, Canadian Geographic, as well Bear Conservation NGO’s based out of Ecuador and Peru. And now she looks to share her love & respect for wildlife and their environments with creators from all over the globe.
